Three Days of Relaxation and Revelry in BC's Shuswap
A perfect long weekend in BC's Shuswap offers options for outdoor lovers, culture buffs, foodies, and relaxation seekers.
Shuswap Lake is the attraction of this southcentral British Columbia area of rugged mountains, forest-lined valleys, grasslands, and lakes.
The Shuswap is a popular place for families and a favourite houseboating and water recreation destination. Salmon Arm is the urban centre on the lakeshore with a long, curved wooden wharf, sandy beaches, and the well-loved Roots and Blues music festival.
This area is home to 1,000 km (600 mi) of shoreline, with fishing, hiking, biking, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and a growing number of wineries.
The Kicking Horse Canyon Project is a 4.6-kilometre section of the Trans Canada Highway, located just east of Golden. Construction has begun, and the anticipated completion date is Winter 2024.
Through spring and summer of 2022, there will be extended (multi-day/24-hour) closures from April 19 (12 p.m.) to May 20 (12 p.m.). Until April 14, the highway will be subject to 30-minute stoppages between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., with some exceptions on weekends. There will also be overnight full closures (10 p.m. to 7 a.m., excluding Saturdays). During the Easter long holiday weekend (April 15 – 18), the highway will be fully open to traffic before the extended closure takes effect on April 19. See the Highway Status Calendar and DriveBC for details.
