Tucked among soaring peaks in the Rocky Mountains, Kicking Horse is all about big mountain skiing and champagne powder. Kicking Horse is also home to four alpine bowls and chutes that keep skiers exploring for days. More thrills? The surrounding heli-skiing terrain is seemingly limitless.
With an impressive ski-in/ski-out village, Kicking Horse rocks the après scene too, from cosy pubs to fine dining. Case in point: The Eagle’s Eye Restaurant is Canada’s most elevated dining experience, thanks to its lofty 2,346-metre (7,700-foot) perch.
Dialing up for this coming winter, Kicking Horse’s new terrain includes the legendary Ozone South face (made famous as the competition venue for last year’s Freeride World Tour event) and Middle Ridge, offering fantastic turns into both Feuz Bowl and the adjacent Rudi’s Bowl. This is Canada’s biggest expansion in skiable terrain—a loud and large 660 acres offering challenges to all skiers and riders.

- Mar 13, 2020: “The good: -Incredible quality snow -World class expert terrain -Hardly anybody else there -Enormous in both acreage and vertical drop -Takes a while to get tracked out -Snow gets windswept off the ridges, leading to 5cm skiing more like 5inches in some spots The bad: -Accommodations and atmosphere at the base are lackluster -This place would be a lot less fun if I wasn’t an expert -Somewhat hard to get to with bad mountain passes on both sides of Golden -Low annual snowfall compared to other world class resorts -If the gondola breaks down, you are screwed. This happened to us one day. Without the gondola, you only can ski the lower mountain. The good definitely outweighs the bad and makes this an incredible ski area, but the issues need to be remedied. ” 1
- Mar 12, 2020: “We spend 3 days skiing at Kicking Horse. This is clearly a resort targeting the advanced skiiers, based on the number of black and double-black runs, and the excellent powder snow. However, we found the information in the daily ski report about groomed runs was highly inaccurate. Also, this resort depends pretty much on the gondola, which brings you to most of the skiing area. But, on all 3 days we were there, the gondola had some issues, and had to be shut down for periods of the day (too high wind, and mechanical issues).” 2
